Melt Pressure
Transducer and transmitters

Gefran patented:

IMPACT sensor technology

IMPACT is the acronym for Innovative Melt Pressure ACcurate Transducer, an innovative technology for measuring the pressure of high-temperature fluids.

Package system overview

The package in IMPACT technologies has a double function: it protects the die and makes the routing of the signal to the electronics and at the same time translates a pressure into a deflection.

This translation is made possible by the use of a thick steel membrane with a push-rod: when the pressure is applied the membrane deflects linearly and transmit such a deflection to the silicon membrane.

The package is basically made by 3 parts: an external steel housing, that protect the MEMS and that is in charge of the translation between pressure and deflection; an internal holder, that holds the MEMS directly in front of the push-rod, granting electrical insulation of the signal
and a floating positioning of the die; a routing system, that can withstand temperature till 300 °C without any insulation loss or dummy resistance.

To compensate the different coefficients of thermal expansion between the holder and the steel external housing, a third material with a suited CTE is used.
