Melt Pressure
Transducer and transmitters

Gefran patented:

IMPACT sensor technology

IMPACT is the acronym for Innovative Melt Pressure ACcurate Transducer, an innovative technology for measuring the pressure of high-temperature fluids.

What is the operative principle of Impact sensors ?

The operative principle is piezoresistive. Pressure is transmitted by a series of mechanical parts made of special materials, such as steel/ceramic alloys, that absorb the thermal and mechanical stresses of the entire structure.
In this way, the sensitive element receives only the stress coming from the diaphragm in contact with the process, ensuring extremely precise and repeatable reads.
The sensor’s main characteristic is that it is fluid-free.

How is the Autozero function activated ?

The Autozero function is activated in the following ways:

  1. By positioning the magnet in contact with the housing in the zone defined by the Autozero plate.
  2. By short-circuiting Pins E-F (in the version with external Autozero). The contact must be maintained from 1 to 10 seconds.

What are the main characteristics and the advantages of using an Impact sensor instead of a traditional one ?

The Impact Melt sensor is “Mercury free” and can be used with materials intended for the food industry (food wrap film, beverage containers) and the pharmaceutical/cosmetics industry (drug containers, soaps), in total compliance with the European RoHS Directive.
The 15-5PH steel contact diaphragm is very thick (up to 15 times thicker than a traditional melt sensor), making the transducer very strong and durable. The materials are non-adhesive at cold-start, and do not break during installation and removal.
They are easy to install thanks to floating mechanics: the process attachment rod is completely detached from the diaphragm/sensitive element body, making it easier to install and remove the sensor from the extruder.

How are factory calibration settings reset ?

RESET PARTIAL CALIBRATION PARAMETERS:
by keeping the magnet in position from 30 to 60 sec.
The transmitter is reset to factory settings (except for recalibration of Span) and Autozero is automatically run.

RESET GLOBAL CALIBRATION PARAMETERS:
after 60 sec., the transmitter is automatically reset to factory settings.

What is the highest working temperature of the fluid in contact with the diaphragm ?

Working temperature can be up to 350°C.
